01Agreement to these terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and T-Invent LLC, doing business as Retellery of 7545 Irvine Center Drive, Suite 200, Irvine, California 92618, USA ("Retellery", "we", "us"), governing your use of the Retellery website and application (the "Service").
By creating an account or using the Service you accept these Terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the Service. Our Privacy Policy is part of this agreement.
02Eligibility and your account
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account, and you must have the legal capacity to enter this agreement. We ask for your date of birth when you sign up and will not open an account for anyone below that age. Accounts are for a single person; do not share your credentials.
Retellery is offered to residents of the United States. It is not directed at, and we do not market or sell it to, consumers in the European Union or the United Kingdom.
Authentication is provided by a third-party identity provider. You are responsible for everything done through your account, and for keeping your sign-in details secure. Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been used without your permission.
You are responsible for the accuracy of the email address on your account — it is how we reach you.
03What Retellery is
Retellery captures your recollections — through an AI interview, by typing, by pasting text you have written, or by uploading photos, video and voice recordings — and keeps them in one private vault. From that vault it can generate stories in various formats: illustrated books, comics, prose books, and (as they become available) audiobooks and short films.
Two properties of the design are worth stating as terms, because they shape what you can expect:
- The vault is the record; outputs are made from it. Generated stories are produced from your vault at the moment you ask for them.
- Outputs are fixed versions. Refining a story or updating it with new material creates a new version rather than editing the old one. We do this deliberately so you always have the version you approved.
Features come and go, and which AI model performs a given job is a configuration we change. We do not guarantee that any particular format, feature or model will remain available.
04Your content
Your content stays yours. You keep all rights you have in the material you put into Retellery and in the stories generated from it.
You grant us a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, transmit, process and display your content, and to send it to the third-party providers listed in our Privacy Policy — strictly for the purpose of operating the Service for you. This licence exists so we can run the product; it ends when your content is deleted, except for copies retained as described in the Privacy Policy.
We do not use your content to train our own models and we do not sell it. What our AI vendors may do under their own terms is described in the Privacy Policy.
You can export your entire vault at any time, as a complete archive of your records and media.
05Content about other people
A life story is about other people. This section is the most important obligation you take on.
- You confirm you have the right to upload and use the material you add, including photographs and recordings of other people, and that doing so does not breach anyone's privacy, publicity, confidentiality or intellectual property rights.
- You are responsible for what you say about identifiable people, including whether it is defamatory, and for any consequence of sharing a story that names or depicts them.
- Where the law or basic decency requires the consent of the person depicted — particularly for photographs of identifiable people used to generate likenesses — obtaining it is your responsibility, not ours.
About the privacy controls. Retellery lets you hide, rename, generalise or combine people, and it checks generated outputs for names you asked to hide. These are real controls and we work hard on them, but they are aids, not guarantees. Automated checks can miss things, and a person can be identifiable from context without ever being named. Review any output before you share it. You remain responsible for what you send to other people.
06Invitations and guest contributions
You can invite other people to contribute memories, ask questions of a published story, or read what you have made, by sending them a private link.
- Only invite people you actually know and who would welcome the invitation. Do not use invitations to send unsolicited messages.
- Contributions made through your invitation are stored in your vault and are subject to these Terms as though you had added them, but the contributor keeps their own rights in what they wrote or recorded.
- Treat contributed material with care. If a contributor asks you to remove what they gave you, remove it.
- Links expire and can be revoked. You are responsible for who you send them to.
If you are a guest using an invitation link: you are not required to contribute, you may decline, and by contributing you permit the person who invited you to include your contribution in stories they generate.
07Voice and likeness
Where voice cloning is available, it is for your own voice only. You must confirm the voice is yours and consent to its use before a clone can be created, and you can withdraw that consent for any place the voice is used.
You must not attempt to create a synthetic voice of any other person, living or dead, and you must not use the Service to impersonate anyone. Synthesised speech generated by Retellery must not be presented as a genuine recording of a real person.
Some jurisdictions require artificially generated audio to be marked as such. We may label, restrict or withhold synthetic voice depending on where a listener is.
08AI-generated content
Retellery uses AI models from third parties to conduct the interview, structure your material, and produce text, images, audio and video. You should understand what that means:
- Outputs may be wrong. Generated stories can misstate dates, conflate people, invent connecting detail, or render an image that does not match reality. Retellery is a storytelling tool, not a system of record. Do not rely on an output as evidence of fact.
- You are the editor. Nothing is published or shared until you approve it. Approving an output is your statement that you are content for it to exist and be shared.
- Outputs may not be unique. Similar prompts can produce similar results for different users, and we cannot guarantee that a generated image or phrasing is original or that it can be protected by copyright in your jurisdiction.
- Models can refuse. A provider's own safety systems may decline to generate from material that is entirely legitimate — a difficult memory, a medical detail, a wartime account. We route around this where we can, but we cannot guarantee any particular piece of material can be rendered in any particular format.
As between you and us, you own the outputs generated for you, subject to the terms of the underlying model providers.
09Acceptable use
You must not use Retellery to create, store, generate or share:
- Child sexual abuse material, or any sexual content involving a minor, in any form including generated imagery. This is absolute.
- Non-consensual intimate imagery, or sexual content depicting a real identifiable person without their consent.
- Content that harasses, threatens, defames or incites violence against a person or group.
- Material that impersonates a real person, or that is designed to deceive people into believing a fabricated depiction is genuine.
- Content that infringes someone else's intellectual property.
- Anything unlawful in the jurisdiction you are in.
You must also not: attempt to access another user's vault or a share link you were not given; probe, scan or interfere with the Service's security; use automated means to extract data beyond your own export; resell or provide the Service to third parties without our agreement; or attempt to bypass usage limits or billing.
10Moderation and enforcement
We may scan uploaded images and video for prohibited material using automated classifiers, and we keep a record of those checks. We may refuse, remove or block content, and we may suspend or terminate accounts, where we reasonably believe these Terms have been broken.
Where we detect apparent child sexual abuse material, we will preserve it in tamper-proof storage and report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), as required of us by 18 U.S.C. §2258A. Preserved evidence is deliberately retained outside your account and is not deleted when your account is deleted.
We have no general obligation to monitor content, and we do not review everything that is stored. Failure to act in one case does not waive our right to act in another.
Appeals. If we remove something of yours or suspend your account and you believe we were wrong, write to legal@retellery.co. We will review the decision and respond within 10 business days.
12Beta service and availability
Retellery is in beta. Features may be incomplete, may change, and may be withdrawn. Generation is performed by third-party providers whose availability we do not control, and long renders can fail.
We aim to keep the Service running but do not commit to any uptime level, and we may suspend it for maintenance. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose — the vault export exists for exactly that.
13Plans, units and billing
Some features are free and some require a paid plan. Generation consumes units, which are included with a plan in a periodic allowance and can also be bought in packs.
- Payments are processed by Stripe. By subscribing you also accept Stripe's terms. We never receive your card details.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the interval you chose until cancelled. You can cancel at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period.
- Prices, plan contents and unit costs may change. We will give notice before a change affects a renewal.
- Generation costs us real money per attempt, so subscription fees are billed in advance and are non-refundable, and we do not give prorated refunds for partial periods. Unit packs are non-refundable once purchased. Units are consumed only when an output is delivered. An attempt that fails, or that a provider’s safety system refuses, costs you nothing — the units reserved for it are released. Units you have bought do not expire.
- Current prices, plan tiers and any trial terms are shown at the point of purchase. Prices are in US dollars and exclude any tax that applies where you are.
- The Service is sold to residents of the United States. We do not offer it to consumers in the European Union or the United Kingdom, and these Terms make no provision for EU or UK statutory cancellation rights.
If your subscription lapses, your vault is retained for a period described in the Privacy Policy before becoming eligible for deletion.
14Intellectual property
The Service itself — the software, the interface, the Retellery name, the owl mark and our branding — belongs to us and our licensors. These Terms grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable right to use the Service, and nothing more.
You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer or create derivative works of the Service, or use our branding without permission.
If you believe content on Retellery infringes your copyright, contact Send copyright notices to legal@retellery.co. We will review each notice, remove or disable access to material we determine is infringing, and notify the account holder..
15Disclaimers
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, and uninterrupted or error-free operation.
We specifically do not warrant that generated content will be accurate, complete, original, suitable for any purpose, or free of material you would rather it did not contain; that the privacy controls will prevent every identification of a person you sought to protect; or that content will not be lost.
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, in which case they do not apply to you.
16Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, nor for loss of profits, revenue, goodwill, or data, however caused, even if we were advised such loss was possible.
Our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the three (3) months preceding the claim, or (b) one hundred US dollars ($100.00).
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Some jurisdictions do not permit certain limitations, in which case they do not apply to you.
17Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless against claims, damages, losses and reasonable legal costs arising from your content, your use of the Service, your breach of these Terms, or your infringement of anyone's rights — in particular claims by people who appear in your story.
This indemnity covers, in particular, claims arising from your violation of these Terms, your use of the Service in violation of applicable law, your failure to obtain the consent of people you write about or invite to contribute, any content you store in or generate through the Service, and your violation of any third party’s rights.
This clause does not limit any right you have under consumer-protection law that cannot lawfully be limited.
18Suspension and termination
You can stop using Retellery at any time, and cancel a paid plan from your billing settings. Before you go, export your vault.
We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, if we are required to by law, or if continuing to provide the Service to you would expose us or others to risk. Where it is reasonable and lawful to do so, we will tell you why and give you an opportunity to retrieve your content.
On termination your right to use the Service ends. Retention of your data after that is governed by the Privacy Policy. Sections 04, 05, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 20 survive termination.
To close your account and have your data deleted, write to privacy@retellery.co. That address is monitored and the request is actioned by an operator; there is no self-service deletion control in the product today.
19Changes
We may update these Terms. We will change the effective date at the top, and for material changes we will give notice in the product before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not, stop using the Service and cancel your plan.
20Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.
Please read this section carefully. It requires most disputes to be resolved by binding arbitration rather than in court, and waives your right to take part in a class action.
Informal resolution first. Before starting any formal process, contact us at legal@retellery.co and try to resolve the dispute informally. We will try to resolve it within 30 days of receiving your notice.
Binding arbitration. If informal resolution fails, any dispute, claim or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be resolved by binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules. The arbitration will be conducted in Orange County, California, or remotely if both parties agree. The arbitrator’s decision is final and binding and may be entered as a judgment in any court of competent jurisdiction.
Class action waiver. You and T-Invent LLC agree that each may bring claims against the other only in an individual capacity, and not as a plaintiff or class member in any purported class or representative proceeding.
Exception. Either party may seek injunctive or other equitable relief in a court of competent jurisdiction to prevent actual or threatened infringement of intellectual property rights, or for other emergency relief.
Nothing here removes any right you have under the consumer law of your own country of residence to bring proceedings there.
Please contact us first — most problems are resolved faster that way than by anyone's legal process.
